BOLTON, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was on hand today to comment on Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent announcement that the Government of Canada will provide the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation’s No Child Without campaign with support, to ensure elementary school children across the country are protected from unforeseen medical emergencies.

“This is great news for parents across Dufferin-Caledon and Canada, especially those with children who suffer from diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, severe allergies, and other serious medical conditions. As a parent of a young child, I can certainly understand the constant concern for a child who has any of these or other conditions.”

The Prime Minister went on to state that over the next five years, the No Child Without campaign will be taken to every one of Canada’s 12,000 elementary schools. “This is a wonderful initiative and MedicAlert deserves a great deal of praise for it. Their new partner in the campaign, the Lions Club of Canada, is to be congratulated as well for providing funding and community-based support as the program expands across our country,” said Mr. Tilson.

Today’s announcement provides an additional $3 million to the No Child Without campaign. The Budget 2008 commitment, combined with $2 million allocated to the campaign in Budget 2007, brings the federal government’s total contribution to the No Child Without campaign to $5 million.
