Orangeville, ON
- David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was on hand at the Orangeville and District Senior Citizens Centre, to welcome Pat Elmore and her team of volunteers to kick off the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. The Centre hosted a volunteer training session on February 18, facilitated by a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) representative.

Established by CRA in 1971, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) offers services to individuals, who are unable to complete their own income tax and benefit return and cannot afford to pay for assistance. The CVITP’s team of trained volunteers can help these individuals with their taxes, if their income is too low and their tax situation is simple.

Free tax preparation will be available in Orangeville every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from February 23 – April 29, at the Orangeville and District Senior Citizens Centre, located at 26 Bythia Street.

While addressing the volunteer team, Mr. Tilson emphasized the importance of the program, which “will relieve the financial and personal stress of the tax season for those who access this service.” Tilson concluded wishing everyone “a happy tax season,” a wish which will come true for many Dufferin-Caledon residents thanks to the work of this dedicated group of volunteers.
