Attends Commemorative Ceremony for the French Resistance
PARIS, FRANCE – An all-party parliamentary delegation from the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association visited the Canadian Juno Beach Centre yesterday and attended a ceremony in Flers, Normandy, commemorating General Charles de Gaulle's call to resistance on June 18, 1940. The delegation is led by Parliamentary Association President, David Tilson (Member of Parliament, Dufferin-Caledon) and includes members of both the House of Commons and the Senate. It is visiting Normandy at the invitation of French Senator, Nathalie Goulet.
While touring the Juno Beach Centre, Mr. Tilson had the following to say, “The Centre is a spectacular monument recognizing our country’s finest from the Second World War and the countless contributions Canada made to the war effort. It is a tremendous honour to be here and to have the opportunity to participate in this moving ceremony.”
The delegation is in France for meetings at the French Senate, National Assembly, and Foreign Ministry on the upcoming French Presidency of the European Union, at the OECD, and at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
