Orangeville, ON – On May 25rd 2007, David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin – Caledon and the Orangeville & District Seniors Center together hosted a successful information forum. Tilson invited special guest speakers which delivered informative and important information. The guests who presented were among Dufferin’s most knowledgeable individuals regarding issues facing senior citizens.
Representing the Orangville Police Service, Constable Scott Davis educated the crowd on the growing problem of identity theft and fraud; in his presentation entitled “Fraud Busters”. Valerie Quarrie from Dufferin-County listed the many of services the county offers senior citizens. Also from the county, Betty Speer shed light upon the counties numerous options for senior citizen subsidized housing. To finish, Pip McBride presented information regarding Help Call an emergency system designed to minimize the obstacles faced by seniors living at home. Focusing on concerns which have a convoluted nature, the expo was extremely successful at educating the attendees. Rogers local television was also present to capture the vital information for those who could not attend the expo.
When asked about the significance of the event Mr. Tilson replied, “This event is extremely important for the citizens of the community. Following success of previous years, this morning’s expo has been more informative and enjoyable then ever. As the Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, it is my duty to keep constituents informed and up-to-date about the many services this community offers our seniors. Due to the success of the expo this will not be the last time I host such an event.”
Following the information and question segment of the expo - provided by Egan’s Funeral Home - both attendees and presenters were treated to a tasty lunch and a chance to socialize with fellow citizens.
