OTTAWA, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was re-elected as President of the all-Party Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association on Tuesday, May 04, 2010, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting, in Ottawa.
“I’m pleased to be serving as President for a third term. Over the last three years, the Association has had many invaluable exchanges with our European counterparts on many issues of mutual importance,” said Mr. Tilson. “During these uncertain economic times, it is essential for Canada to build new relationships and strengthen old ones. Canada and Europe share many of the same current challenges and the Association is an excellent means to discuss and identify new approaches to overcome them.”
Mr. Tilson has served as President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association since March 2008 and has also been a member of the Executive Committee since 2004. The Association aims to facilitate exchanges between parliamentarians, in Canada, and representatives from various European institutions, with the objectives of promoting Canadian interests and fostering mutual cooperation. As President of the Association, Mr. Tilson leads Canadian delegations traveling to Europe, as he did recently, in April, at the Second Part of the 2010 Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), held in Strasbourg, France. In his role as President, he also hosts European officials when they are visiting Canada.
