M.P. David Tilson meets President of (Republic of China) Taiwan

– David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, met with the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou, during a visit to (Republic of China) Taiwan from July 03 to July 11, 2009.

Mr. Tilson led a multi-party parliamentary delegation to the country which included Members of Parliament: John Weston (Conservative), John McCallum (Liberal), Judy Sgro (Liberal), Judy Foote (Liberal), and Robert Bouchard (Bloc Québécois).

Mr. Tilson spoke to President Ma on behalf of the delegation and discussed issues of importance between Taiwan and Canada including: beef, visa requirements, Taiwan-mainland China relations, potential trade agreements, the world economy, and the environment.

“It was an honour to meet President Ma, as well as the Vice-President, Vincent C. Siew,” said Mr. Tilson. “We had a very productive meeting on issues of mutual importance for our countries and it tied in well with the numerous meetings our delegation had with various government offices and organizations during this trip. Canada and Taiwan have had a good relationship and I expect this to continue.”
