Bolton, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, hosted a new Canadian citizen reception today at his Bolton constituency office. Approximately 30 new citizens from across Dufferin-Caledon and their families attended the reception where they met Mr. Tilson and fellow citizens.
During the reception, Mr. Tilson congratulated the new citizens on receiving their citizenship and learned of their varied backgrounds and experiences. Mr. Tilson also informed the new citizens of the many services offered by his constituency offices, such as passport application drop-offs, assistance with Federal programs including: Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, the Old Age Security program, and Federal agencies, such as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
“Today's reception is an excellent way for new citizens to meet each other and to celebrate all that it means to be a Canadian,” said Mr. Tilson. “These constituents remind all of us of the many rights and responsibilities associated with Canadian citizenship, as well as the great pride and shared values we share as a country.”
This is the first new Canadian citizen reception Mr. Tilson has hosted. He has hosted previous citizenship ceremonies in his riding and acted as a citizenship judge during a special citizenship ceremony last year.
