David Tilson, M.P. announces Government of Canada’s Investment in Wood Industry Magazine
June 24, 2021
CALEDON, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, David Tilson, Member of Parliament (Dufferin–Caledon), today announced funding for Wood Industry magazine. Wood Industry is the authority on making and marketing wood products in Canada. “The periodical industry is a vital cultural sector in Canada,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to support magazines that promote Canadian ideas, history, and culture.” “I am very pleased to see the Government of Canada supporting the growth of this magazine,” said Mr. Tilson. “These federal funds will ensure that the magazine remains a vibrant source of information for years to come.” “Canadian trade publications provide critical communication to Canada’s manufacturing and sales sectors. Postal and printing costs, as well as the U.S.-led economic downturn, have placed unique pressure on publications and their advertisers,” said Kerry Knudsen, publisher. “This funding will provide a much-needed boost over the hurdles the current international economic environment has imposed, and will help keep jobs in Caledon.” The Government of Canada has provided funding of $17,694 to Wood Industry magazine under the Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund (CPF). The Fund invests in periodicals like this one to help increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries. The Aid to Publishers component works to ensure that Canadians can continue to have access to the Canadian content they want from paid or request circulation magazines and community newspapers, and provides those titles with the support they need to respond to a complex marketplace. This component provides greater flexibility for publishers to invest where needed in creation, production, marketing, distribution, and Web and digital development. The CPF, which was created following public consultations, replaces two former programs: the Publications Assistance Program and the Canada Magazine Fund. |
