MP David Tilson applauds bicentennial investment
May 26, 2021
PARLIAMENT HILL – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today commended the Government of Canada on its preparation to honour the Anniversary on the War of 1812. On May 21, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced funding for the expansion of the Niagara Falls History Museum. The expansion will accommodate the expected steady increase of visitors before and after the 200th anniversary of the War. The investment is meant to conserve and enrich Niagara’s heritage and historic sites. The Museum, located on the site of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane, will not only expand with the funding, but will improve the buildings at the Navy Hall and Butler Barracks Natural Historic Site. The subsidy will also help support the local economy since more tourists will visit the area. Visitors will be able to come and learn more on the War and experience the richness of Canada’s heritage. The funding will also allow for more jobs for Canadian men and women. This funding also follows Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Canada’s Economic Action plan directs certain funds to protecting national parks and historic sites within Canada. Mr. Tilson stated “I am pleased by the Government’s funding for the Museum. It is imperative that we not only preserve our historic sites, but also celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812. I am pleased to know that it will help the local economy and supply jobs as well.” The Niagara Falls Natural History Museum is expected to be renovated and operational by June 2012. |
