Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today on the deaths of two Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan:
“It is with great regret that I extend my condolences, and those of all Canadians, to the family and friends of Corporal Christian Bobbitt and a second soldier, whose name is being withheld at this time at his family’s request. These men were killed by an improvised explosive device while performing their duties on patrol in the Zhari District.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of these soldiers during this difficult period.
“The military component of this mission enables development and aid to better the lives of the Afghan people.
“The men and women of our Canadian Forces tirelessly strive to make a positive difference in this world. Their selfless actions protect Canadians, our interests and our values.”
