David Congratulates the Dufferin Arts Group on Receiving Grant
On February 09, 2018, David congratulated the Dufferin Arts Group on receiving a $25,000 New Horizons for Seniors Program grant.
The program being funded is the second phase of the “Multicultural Intergenerational Writing Program." This program is designed to engage and bring together senior members of the Dufferin Arts Council and community seniors with grade 7 and 8 students, in order for them to share culture and personal stories of the past and present with an emphasis on attracting First Nation, aboriginal, and seniors who’ve migrated to Canada.
The meetings between the small student groups and the seniors will concentrate on literary skills of writing, editing, interviewing, discussions, composition, and sharing. The students collect the information during the six week sessions and then create a memory album for their senior partner that includes the life stages such as childhood, young adult years, careers, and retirement.
Both groups, the seniors, and the students, learn about cultures, life experiences, happy and sad that forms the human mosaic. The program also opens the memories of the seniors and gives the students a glimpse of life in the past that can affect a present day community.
