Parliament Hill – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon is currently participating in the United States-Canadian Parliamentary Internship Program.  On May 13th Mr. Tilson welcomed Jade Danielle Hill of Union City, Indiana to his Ottawa office.

Ms. Hill is currently attending Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana.  She is a fourth year student obtaining her undergraduate degree in Political Science, History, and Spanish with a minor in Leadership.

The United States-Canadian Parliamentary Internship Program, sponsored through Western Kentucky University, provides U.S. students interested in Canadian politics a chance to work in the office of a Member of Parliament and to learn about the Canadian political system.  There are currently thirty-eight interns serving in the program from all across the United States.

“I am extremely pleased to again have the opportunity to participate in this program,” Mr. Tilson said.  “Jade has been a great asset to our Ottawa office, and I trust that she has learned a great amount about Canadian politics and the political system.”

During her time in Mr. Tilson’s office, Ms. Hill has had the opportunity to learn about Canadian politics and culture.  She has assisted Mr. Tilson in the preparation of speeches, constituency mailings, and various other communications materials.  She will also be present for the opening of the 41st Parliament and the budget debate that will be held next week.

“The entire experience has been extremely rewarding,” said Ms. Hill.  “I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to view Canadian politics from within the system and see firsthand the type of work that occurs.  Mr. Tilson has allowed me to sit in on meetings, attend proceedings in the House of Commons, and encouraged me to complete more office work than I ever imagined I would.  I am more than grateful for all that Mr. Tilson and his staff have taught me.”
