Tilson repeats call for moratorium on industrial wind turbines

February 14, 2021

OTTAWA – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today sent a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne repeating his call for a moratorium on new industrial wind turbine installations until the results of the Health Canada scientific study into adverse health effects on nearby residents is complete.

“Health Canada is concerned enough that they have launched a comprehensive scientific study into the health effects on residents living near industrial wind turbines,” said Mr. Tilson. “The Premier must put a halt to the construction of any new installations until the science is in. The province’s first responsibility is the health and safety of its citizens.”

There are currently over 130 industrial wind turbines installed in north Dufferin and there are plans for 49 more for Melancthon and 3 more for Amaranth in two separate project proposals.

“Over the past number of years many residents of north Dufferin have told me of the negative impact on their health of these industrial wind turbine installations,” said Mr. Tilson. “The Premier and the province have barreled ahead with these projects without due consideration for the residents living in close proximity. The responsible thing to do is to let the scientists at Health Canada do their work before any more of these installations proceed.”
