Tilson Re-Appointed As Chairman Of Standing Committee On Citizenship & Immigration

OTTAWA, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was re-appointed as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration on June 23, 2011. After learning of the news, Mr. Tilson issued the following statement, “I’m once again very honoured and pleased to be Chairman of this Committee. A number of key bills were studied in the last Parliament, including: application wait times, best practices in settlement services, reforms to Canada’s asylum system, as well as cracking down on crooked consultants and I expect the Committee to tackle more key issues in the next session.”
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration examines orders of reference the House of Commons refers to it. The orders of reference may pertain to bills, Estimates, or order-in-council appointments. The Committee may also study issues that it selects.
Furthermore, this Committee studies and reports on all matters relating to the mandate, management, and operation of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), as well as the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
