OTTAWA, ON – Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson met this week with Her Excellency Marie-Anne Coninsx, the new Ambassador of the European Union to Canada, to discuss matters of mutual interest to both Canada and the European Union.

“As President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association I was pleased to meet with Her Excellency as she begins her term as the European Union’s Ambassador to Canada,”, said Mr. Tilson. “Relations with our colleagues in the EU are particularly important with the recent signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.”

While CETA provides access to the European market for thousands of Canadian businesses, there remain a number of issues under discussion including the EU’s ban on seal products, as well as their pursuit of the so-called fuel quality directive which could impact the oil sands in Canada.

“Constructive dialog is a hallmark of the strong relationship between Canada and the European Union”, said Mr. Tilson. “I look forward to working with Ambassador Coninsx in the coming months as we seek to further improve the relationship between Canada and our colleagues in the EU.”
