OTTAWA, ON – Dufferin-Caledon MP, David Tilson, met Tuesday in Ottawa with David Forfar, Chief of Caledon Fire and Emergency Services, during the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs’ annual day on Parliament Hill.

“Chief Forfar was kind enough to meet with me to share the concerns of Canadian Fire Chiefs on a number of issues that are important to residents in Dufferin-Caledon,” said Mr. Tilson. “Of particular concern is the transportation of dangerous goods by rail through our communities, which Chief Forfar and I discussed.”

Chief Forfar raised several issues during the meeting. Fire Chiefs are seeking a change to the National Model Fire Code which would see new home construction include mandatory sprinkler systems. As well, they are seeking a change to the Code to mandate sprinkler systems in all care facilities, regardless of when they were built. Chief Forfar also discussed the transportation of dangerous goods through our communities, particularly by rail.

“I appreciated Chief Forfar’s knowledge of the issues and the time he took to brief me,” said Mr. Tilson. “Our firefighters and other first responders are on the front lines every day protecting our families. I’m wholeheartedly in support of their efforts to make our communities safer.”
