David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, hosted his second annual new Canadian citizen reception today at his Bolton constituency office. More than 30 new citizens from across the riding and their families attended the reception where they met Mr. Tilson and fellow citizens.

During the reception, Mr. Tilson congratulated each of the new citizens on receiving their Canadian citizenship and learned of their varied backgrounds and experiences. Mr. Tilson also informed the new citizens of the many services offered by his constituency offices, such as passport application drop-offs and assistance with Federal agencies and programs including: Employment Insurance (EI), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), the Old Age Security (OAS) program, and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

“I would like to congratulate each of you on receiving your Canadian citizenship,” said Mr. Tilson. “Canada and our community will certainly benefit from what you bring to our country – your ideas, your skills, and your experiences. On behalf of the Government of Canada and the residents of Dufferin-Caledon, welcome to the Canadian community and I encourage you to actively embrace of all of the rights and responsibilities of your new Canadian citizenship.”

In addition to the new Canadian citizen reception and citizenship ceremonies he’s hosted in the past, citizenship and immigration matters, both locally and nationally, continue to be of considerable importance to Mr. Tilson. In August, he participated in a new Canadian citizenship ceremony at Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC) Kitchener office. He was also re-appointed Chairman of the Citizenship and Immigration Committee in June, following the 41st General Election.
