Tilson Announces Support for Bolton Company

May 03, 2021

Bolton, Ontario
– David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today announced an investment of $50,000 in D&R Electronics Co. Ltd. through the National Research Council Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).

“Our Government’s Economic Action Plan 2013 focuses on the drivers of growth and job creation - innovation, investment, education, skills, and communities,” said Mr. Tilson. “We are supporting Canadian firms that successfully develop innovative technologies and helping businesses bring new ideas to the marketplace.”

The $50,000 contribution will assist the Bolton-based company in designing its own high intensity LED emergency rotating warning lights project. Emergency and public service vehicle visual warning lights help to advertise the vehicle's presence to other road users, and in industrial applications, they are used as visual warning indicators that dangers exist. The global market size for this type of equipment is very large and by having their own product, D&R Electronics Co.  Ltd. can produce it at a lower cost than purchasing it from abroad, which will open new market opportunities for the company.

NRC-IRAP provides a range of both technical and business-oriented advisory services along with necessary financial support to qualified innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in Canada. It engages in cost-shared research and development (R&D) projects with its clients. Firms helped by NRC-IRAP are better equipped to perform basic R&D, commercialize new products and processes, and access new markets.

“Upon successful project completion, D&R Electronics will be able to offer its own line of emergency warning light beacons to compete in the global market place, and open up new sales opportunities thereby increasing our export market, which will surely create new jobs at D&R Electronics by way of increased sales as well,” said Alfredo Darolfi, Vice-President, D&R Electronics Co. Ltd. “Product development is paramount to successfully competing in any market, so financial assistance from NRC-IRAP will allow us to proceed more quickly as it will permit us to direct more resources and time into it.”

D&R Electronics Co. Ltd. designs, manufactures, assembles and installs a wide variety of customized and standard Police and Emergency service vehicle lighting systems, sirens, flashers and mounting console technologies, since 1976.

Economic Action Plan 2013 provides substantial direct support for business innovation and makes available $500 million for venture capital. Of this support, an additional $110 million is allocated to NRC-IRAP annually to expand the program’s reach and services for innovative Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Canada.
