ORANGEVILE, ON –
David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, this evening met with Larry Kurtz founding organizer of the Orangeville Blues & Jazz Festival, before a live performance of the Chris Nicholl Jazz Duo at the Hockley Valley Resort.

“I am pleased to announce this funding to the Orangeville Blues & Jazz Festival,” said Mr. Tilson. “This being their tenth year of bringing incredible talent to Orangeville and area; the event has become a mainstay to our arts and culture.

The Blues & Jazz Festival will receive $19,500 through the Local Arts & Heritage Festival program. Funding will help contribute to the four day festival’s spectacular musical line up of over 146 artists, the many activities planned including acoustic workshops and the coordination of the 170 volunteers; all of which will attract over 36,000 to the area.

“This funding is crucial and has allowed this volunteer organization to grow into the single largest event in the county,” said Blues & Jazz Festival founder Larry Kurtz.

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
