Next Phase of Economic Action Plan Unveiled

Ottawa, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today expressed support for Finance Minister James Flaherty’s Budget, delivered in the House of Commons on March 22, 2011.

Major themes of this year’s Budget include continued focus on the economy and job creation, moving Canada back towards a surplus in the medium term as the fiscal stimulus comes to a close as well as help for homeowners and seniors.

“I think this Budget reflects the priorities I’ve been hearing from residents in Dufferin-Caledon over the past few months,” said Mr. Tilson. “Constituents have been telling me they want us to continue our focus on the economy and jobs and to get the deficit down in a reasonable time frame. That’s the message I took to the Finance Minister and I’m pleased to see it reflected in this Budget.”

The 2011 Budget brings in the next phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which will focus on job creation; strengthening families and communities; investing in innovation, training and education; and preserving Canada’s fiscal advantage. With the stimulus funding that was necessary to help stave off the worst effects of the global economic recession having done its job, the first phase of the Economic Action Plan is drawing to a close. Dufferin-Caledon benefitted significantly from an economic standpoint as a result of that stimulus funding, including new sports facilities, new municipal infrastructure and upgrades to the historic Dufferin County Courthouse among the projects.

“This budget makes it clear that the economy, job creation and low taxes remain the government’s top priority,” said Mr. Tilson.
