M.P. David Tilson Questions Province’s Ability To Enforce Wind Turbine Regulations

June 24, 2021
Ottawa, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, released today the text of a letter written to Premier Dalton McGuinty, Environment Minister John Wilkinson, Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Arlene King, regarding the province’s ability to enforce noise emission regulations covering wind turbine installations in Dufferin County.

It was revealed last week in an article in the Ottawa Citizen that the provincial environment ministry lacks the proper tools to measure noise emissions from existing wind turbine installations. A leaked document from a Guelph-based field inspector at the provincial environment department calls into question their ability to properly enforce existing standards for noise emissions.

“Not only does this present obvious problems for the existing wind turbines in Melancthon and Amaranth Townships,” said Mr. Tilson, “but it highlights the need to halt the proposed Belwood wind farm until they can get a handle on this.”

“Numerous constituents have either written or met with me to air their concerns over the negative impact of these wind turbine installations,” stated Mr. Tilson. “The province needs to return control over land use to the local municipalities rather than imposing these wind farms on residents without a say in the matter.”
