Tilson Congratulations Township of Mulmur on Receiving $125,000 for Community Energy Planning
ORANGEVILLE, ON- David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was pleased to learn that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Communities and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) has approved $125,000 in Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP) funding to the Township of Mulmur for its Community Energy Planning Project.
The funding provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Communities and FMC will help the municipality implement an energy use plan that will have future goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions for the entire community.
“Looking into ways to reduce greenhouse gas use is an important goal for municipalities,” stated Mr. Tilson. “This funding will allow the Township of Mulmur to take a closer look at energy use and implement steps to reduce their carbon footprint over time.”
The initial stages of the plan will involve extensive public consultation to identify problem areas. The plan, once implemented, will encompass all aspects of the municipality, from fuel suppliers to agricultural operations.
The FMC announced over $12.1 million in funding for 159 new initiatives across Canada. The MCIP supports municipalities in their initiatives to solve environmental challenges they may be facing through funding, training, and information sharing. The projects that the MCIP promotes have goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over time. The goal of the fund is to find long term solutions to environmental problems in Canadian communities.
