Orangeville Receives $10,000 in Funding for Pan Am and Parapan Am Torch Relay Celebration

ORANGEVILLE – Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson today announced that the Town of Orangeville is receiving funding of $10,000 through the Community Celebrations Fund for its major torch relay celebration on June 12, 2015. This support from the Government of Canada will help the celebration in Orangeville strengthen national pride and raise awareness of vibrant cultural communities in the region.

· The Town of Orangeville has been selected by TO2015 as a Major Celebration Community on the Pan American Torch Relay route. The community celebration is scheduled to take place on June 13, 2015.

· The Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Community Celebrations Fund is a two-year initiative that will support cultural activities throughout Canada in connection with the Toronto 2015 Games.

· This funding comes from the up to $500 million the Government of Canada has committed to the 2015 Games.

· The Governor General proclaimed 2015 as the Year of Sport in Canada. Its overarching theme is “Canada: A Leading Sport Nation.”

“Our community is thrilled to welcome the torch relay, as we hope to show Canadians through our major celebration that Orangeville is dedicated to fostering sport, culture and heritage,” said Mr. Tilson.
