Town of Caledon Receives $15,000 in Funding for Pan Am & Parapan American Games Torch Relay Celebration

Government of Canada supports major celebrations and cultural activities along the torch relay route

CALEDON EAST, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today announced that the Town of Caledon is receiving funding of $15,000 through the Community Celebrations Fund for its Pan Am and Parapan American Games Torch Relay Celebration on June 13, 2015. He made the announcement to Town of Caledon Council at Town Hall after the Caledon torchbearers were introduced to Council.

This support from the Government of Canada will assist the Town of Caledon’s Torch Relay Celebration activities that will include local entertainment which celebrates Canada’s diversity and the arrival of the Pan American Flame.

“It’s an honour that the Municipality of the Town of Caledon has been selected as a Major Celebration Community on the Pan American Torch Relay route and to announce that our Government is providing support to the Town of Caledon for its tremendous efforts to deliver an outstanding celebration,” said Mr. Tilson. “The torch relay celebration will showcase the best that Caledon has to offer to our province, our country, and the world!”

  • The Municipality of the Town of Caledon has been selected by TO2015 as a Major Celebration Community on the Pan American Torch Relay route. The community celebration is scheduled to take place on June 13, 2015.
  • The Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Pa2apan Am Games Community Celebrations Fund is a two-year initiative that will support cultural activities throughout Canada in connection with the Toronto 2015 Games.
  • This funding comes from the up to $500 million the Government of Canada has committed to the 2015 Games.
  • The Governor General proclaimed 2015 as the Year of Sport in Canada. Its overarching theme is “Canada: A Leading Sport Nation.”
