Tilson once again re-elected as president of the Canada-Europe parliamentary association
OTTAWA, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was once again re-elected as President of the all-Party Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association on Tuesday, February 05, 2013, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), in Ottawa.
“It’s an honour to be re-elected as President of this Association and I sincerely appreciate the continued support of all political parties” said Mr. Tilson. “The role and work performed by the Association is especially important given the continued economic instability in Europe. Our Government has successfully stewarded the Canadian economy through the global economic downturn and the Association can share our unique Canadian perspective and experiences on such an issue with our European counterparts.”
Mr. Tilson has served as President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association since March 2008 and has also been a member of the Executive Committee since 2004. The Association hosts exchanges between parliamentarians, in Canada, and representatives from various European institutions with the objectives of promoting Canadian interests and fostering mutual cooperation.
In his role as President of the Association, Mr. Tilson leads Canadian delegations traveling to Europe, as he did last October during the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. The delegation then travelled to Dublin, Ireland, to meet with members of the Irish Parliament, as Ireland prepared for its presidency of the European Union. Mr. Tilson also hosts European parliamentarians when they visit Ottawa.
