Veterans’ Week 2010

November 04, 2021
From November 5 to 11, Canadians will join together to celebrate Veterans’ Week. During this week, hundreds of commemorative ceremonies and events will take place across the country to honour our Veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to the men and women who have served – and those who continue to serve our country. The sacrifices and achievements of these remarkable men and women have helped shape the Canada we know and love.

Veterans’ Week is a special time for Canadians to remember those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace. This year, the Government of Canada is asking Canadians to make remembrance more than something you feel – to make it something you do. There are many ways to actively remember and honour our Canadian Veterans:
  • Wear a poppy above your heart, attend the local Remembrance Day ceremony, and vow never to forget.
  • Talk to a friend or relative who has served in Afghanistan or other areas of conflict, to learn about their experiences.
  • Change your profile picture on Facebook to a poppy and blog or tweet about the importance of remembrance.
  • Are you a Veteran? Tell your story to a young person that you know, to your neighbours, to the people in your community. Be proud of your accomplishments. You are a page in our national history book.

It is a priority for the Government of Canada to ensure our Veterans and their families have the support they need—when they need it.

Whether it is help moving to civilian life, financial support, disability benefits, or mental health services, Veterans Affairs Canada offers programs that are as diverse as the Veterans it serves, in order to accommodate their needs.

This Veterans‘ Week, how will you remember? However you choose to remember, be sure to tell a friend, a family member, or a colleague. Together we must keep the memories of our Canadian Veterans alive.
