Tilson Visits Canadian International Grains Institute (CIGI)
November 19, 2008

OTTAWA, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, visited the Canadian International Grains Institute (CIGI), while participating in the Conservative Party of Canadian 2008 Convention. The Convention took place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from November 13 – 15th.

Created in 1972 and based in Winnipeg, CIGI works closely with industry stakeholders to:
•Educate buyers and end users about the value of Canadian field crops through programs, technical services, and customer support;
•Ensure Canadian agribusiness remains competitive through courses, training, and workshops;
•Conduct research on field crops through laboratory and pilot scale testing.

After the Institute’s presentation to the Conservative caucus concluded, Mr. Tilson was available for comment, “I certainly gained a better understanding and appreciation for the grain and oilseed sector, especially since we have several producers in my riding of Dufferin-Caledon. Our Government recognizes that the production of grains and oilseeds are a vital part of Canada’s agricultural industry and whose contributions not only put food on our tables, but strengthen the Canadian economy.”
