OTTAWA, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, was re-elected as President of the all-Party Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting, in Ottawa.

“The Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association plays an important role in Canada’s relations with Europe,” said Mr. Tilson. “During my time as President of the Association, I’ve been able to engage our European counterparts on important issues of mutual interest and I look forward to continuing this work over the next year.”

Mr. Tilson has served as President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association since March 2008 and has also been a member of the Executive Committee since 2004. The Association aims to facilitate exchanges between parliamentarians, in Canada, and representatives from various European institutions with the objectives of promoting Canadian interests and fostering mutual cooperation.

In his role as President of the Association, Mr. Tilson leads Canadian delegations traveling to Europe, as he did recently in September at the 34th Annual Inter-parliamentary Meeting between the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association and the European Parliament’s Delegation Responsible for Relations with Canada. Mr. Tilson also hosts European officials when they are visiting Canada, which he did in July with members of the European Parliament’s Delegation Responsible for Relations with Canada.
