ORANGEVILLE, Ontario — David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin–Caledon, today attended the kick-off event for the Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) in Orangeville’s Odd Job Week. The office is ready to assist businesses and young workers with their summer employment needs. Odd Job Week promotes youth employment by linking young people seeking casual summer employment and employers or homeowners seeking help.
To set the example for other potential employers from within the Orangeville region, the law office of Tilson and Birchall is pleased to participate in the Odd Job Week by hiring Albert Jansen, a student found through the services provided at the Orangeville SCCY. Albert will be performing various clean up and general maintenance duties at the law office on 5 Mill St.
“The Government of Canada is committed to helping young people get the skills and knowledge they need to improve their employment opportunities,” said Mr. Tilson. “By working with local employers and individuals, we can make sure that young people get valuable summer work experience, and that our community has a strong and vibrant work force for the future.”
SCCYs link young people with employers. The Centres provide young people with access to job postings, interview advice, assistance with résumé writing, and job-search strategies, and they give employers a location to post notices for job openings.
This year, employers interested in using the Orangeville SCCY services and youth looking for summer employment can visit the Orangeville office in person between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, at 102-210 Broadway Avenue. They can also call the Centre at 519-941-3390 or send a fax to 519-941-2504. Job postings are available online at www.jobbank.gc.ca under “Student Job Search,” “Ontario,” “Peel, Halton, Dufferin and Area.” For more information on Service Canada services for youth, call 1 800 O Canada or visit servicecanada.gc.ca.
