Scouts Present Greetings for Troops in Haiti
BOLTON, ON – David Tilson, the Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, visited the 1st Caledon East Scouts Troop, at St. Cornelius Elementary School, in Caledon East, on November 4th.
Mr. Tilson was approached by the Scouts to come and speak about the significance of Remembrance Day and his role as Member of Parliament. During his presentation to the students, Mr. Tilson noted that, “Remembrance Day is a time to stop and reflect on the tremendous courage, bravery, and sacrifices made by many outstanding men and women of this country. It is because of their efforts we enjoy the rights and freedoms we have today.”
The Scouts had many questions for Mr. Tilson about his activities in Ottawa, as well as parliamentary procedure and the Senate. After answering all of their questions, the Scouts presented Mr. Tilson with a package containing their many greetings letters for the Canadian troops currently serving in Haiti, in Operation Hamlet.
Mr. Tilson thanked the Scouts for their well wishes, “I commend all of you and your leaders on such a wonderful project. I know our troops will truly appreciate your letters and pictures. The greetings will surely bring a smile to their faces, as they carry out their important work in Haiti.”
After his meeting with the students, Mr. Tilson arranged for the packages to be forwarded to the Canadian Forces Postal Service post office in Belleville, where they will be sent on to troops stationed in Haiti.
