Orangeville, Ontario — David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today announced that a significant project in Orangeville is moving forward thanks to an investment of $2.7 million, under the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) in Southern Ontario.
The approved project is a joint venture between Community Living Dufferin and Theatre Orangeville to construct a new, dual-use 20,000 square foot facility. The funding support for this project was recently announced under the Community Adjustment Fund, which will create immediate employment opportunities and support the local economies in communities throughout Southern Ontario with populations of fewer than 250,000 that rely heavily on manufacturing and natural resources.
“Thanks to federal investment through the Community Adjustment Fund, this project will launch an exciting new partnership between two outstanding local organizations - Community Living Dufferin and Theatre Orangeville. The creation of a new multi-use facility will stimulate the economy in the short term, while ensuring two influential local organizations now have a permanent place to call home,” commented Tilson.
“I’m thrilled with the announcement,” exclaimed Community Living Dufferin Executive Director Sheryl Chandler. “What an opportunity for Community Living Dufferin and Theatre Orangeville to achieve our dream!”
David Childs, Community Living Dufferin Board Chair, shared Sheryl’s enthusiasm commenting that, “everyone involved with the Building Dreams Together project has worked tirelessly. This grant is a stunning recognition of the remarkable effort expended by all.”
David Nairn, the Artistic Director of Theatre Orangeville is also ecstatic that the Building Dreams Together project is now a reality. “While the Orangeville Town Hall Opera House shall always remain the primary performance home of Theatre Orangeville, our portion of this magnificent new facility will become the dream factory, the hub for all the backstage magic that Theatre Orangeville creates. Prepare to be amazed,” commented Mr. Nairn.
This project was part of the up to $102 million investment made through the Community Adjustment Fund for 2009-2010, announced on August 27, 2009, by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, newly appointed Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). It is the Government's intention to support a total of 90 projects in communities across Southern Ontario that have been struggling with the effects of the global economic downturn.
Approved projects must meet the terms and conditions set out in their funding agreements. A complete list of approved projects in Southern Ontario will be made available online at www.ic.gc.ca/caf on September 10, 2009.
Applications for 2010-2011 CAF project funds will be accepted by FedDev Ontario later this year. A public announcement will be made once details are finalized.
CAF is just one in a series of initiatives introduced in the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan designed to address the short-term effects of the economic decline on communities across Canada, while preparing our communities for long-term growth.
