ORANGEVILLE, Ontario, May 31, 2021
– David Tilson, Member of Parliament (Dufferin–Caledon), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding to Theatre Orangeville for upgrades to the Orangeville Town Hall Opera House.

This investment will be used to purchase and install new seats, including additional wheelchair seating for the Opera House, and to upgrade the theatre’s electrical and sound systems. It will help make this cultural space more accessible and enhance audience appreciation.

“Theatre Orangeville is a dynamic player in this community’s cultural life,” said Mr. Tilson. “Today’s investment will help make the theatre more accessible and comfortable for patrons of all ages who will be able to continue to enjoy top-quality entertainment throughout the year.”

“We are proud to be investing in this vibrant cultural institution located in the heart of Orangeville,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is investing in local infrastructure projects like this, which benefit the economy and enhance the cultural profile of our communities.”

“The success of our grant application has ensured that the Orangeville Town Hall Opera House will provide even greater accessibility to one and all,” said David Nairn, Artistic Director, Theatre Orangeville. “Thanks to the support from the Government of Canada, the renovated Opera House will continue to serve as the leading arts and culture beacon in our community for many years to come.”

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $110,000 through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund seeks to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual, and media arts, and to museum collections and heritage displays.
