Orangeville, ON- David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, announced funding for Dufferin-Caledon projects totaling over six million dollars on Friday June 26, 2009. The money, which is part of the Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program, will allow the riding to begin a number of recreational projects throughout the region. The federal, provincial and municipal governments will each be providing one third ($2,021,845) of the total $6,065,535.
The Recreational Infrastructure Program is just one aspect of the Canadian government’s Economic Action Plan and is designed to help stimulate the economy in the short term, while ensuring long-term recreational infrastructure goals are met throughout the country.
These projects will renew, upgrade and expand existing recreational facilities throughout the riding, while creating new jobs and contributing to the health and wellbeing of Dufferin-Caledon communities.
The federal contributions to projects in Caledon include:
- $75,000 Bolton skate park expansion
- $891,000 Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness Youth Centre expansion
- $495,000 Mayfield Recreation Complex upgrades
- $99,166 Caledon East Ballpark building and amenities reconstruction
- $70,000 Caledon Trailway resurfacing
- $70,000 Alton Ballpark washroom building and pavilion reconstruction
“Recreational infrastructure strengthens our communities, both physically and economically,” said Mr. Tilson. “These projects will bring residents of Dufferin-Caledon together to get fit and have fun, as well as create local jobs, something this government is committed to doing.”
The federal contribution towards projects in Dufferin includes:
- $59,346 East Luther Grand Valley Community Centre mechanical room and ice surface upgrades
- $84,000 Township of Mulmur Arena upgrades
- $13,333 Township of Amaranth replace and relocate playground equipment
- $110,000 Orangeville Rail Trail extension
- $22,000 Township of Mulmur Community Park washrooms
