MP David Tilson remembers local business and community leader Don Laverty
March 23, 2010

PARLIAMENT HILL – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today rose in the House of Commons to pay tribute to local business and community leader and youth activist Don Laverty.

"Mr. Speaker, it is with great honour that I rise today to recognize a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, philanthropist, and member of our community. This is only a brief description of Don Laverty, who will always be remembered for his generous nature, natural business intellect, and dedication to helping youth in recognizing their full potential, “said Mr. Tilson. “Sadly, we lost Don on February fourth; however, he left his mark on our community, through his many contributions to Burnside & Associates, his work on the Youth for Christ movement, as well as his involvement in other groups and committees.”

“Don's proudest achievement was his beloved family – his wife Lynne and his children: Lee-Anne, Craig, and Tracey Lee, and his grandchildren: Max, Ella, Owen, Rylan, and Abigail,” continued Mr. Tilson.  “Together with his family, we will miss Don, but we will always be very thankful for his incredible enthusiasm, generous spirit, and immense humility. This is an amazing legacy left by an amazing man.”

Mr. Laverty’s widow and son were present in the Visitor’s Gallery in the House of Commons to witness the statement.
