BOLTON, ON– David Tilson, the Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, attended the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s (TRCA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 24, 2006, which was held at the Pearson Convention Centre, in Brampton. Mr. Tilson was asked by TRCA to speak on behalf of the Government of Canada and welcomed the 400 people in attendance. Mr. Tilson acknowledged that this was the Authority’s fiftieth AGM and read greetings from Prime Minister Harper.
In addition to Mr. Tilson, many other municipal and provincial representatives attended the event. Mayor Marolyn Morrison and Regional Councillor Nancy Stewart from the Town of Caledon, as well as Mayor Keith Thompson from the Town of Mono, were present.
The AGM touched on many themes including water quality and “The Living City,” an initiative by TRCA to create a healthy and sustainable urban region leading into the twenty-second century.
In his address, Mr. Tilson congratulated the Authority on its dedication and many efforts towards the creation and maintenance of greenspace, biodiversity, and sustainable communities. Mr. Tilson went on to say, “I sincerely congratulate you on your many achievements over the last fifty years and our new government looks forward to working with you on fulfilling the goals you have established for the next century.”
