Ottawa, ON – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today expressed support for the Speech from the Throne delivered this afternoon in the Senate Chamber by the Government General, His Excellency The Right Honourable David Johnston.

The Speech outlined the plans of the Government for the 41st Parliament as laid out during the recent election campaign. Specifically, the Government will focus on supporting jobs and growth; eliminating the deficit; supporting hard-working families; standing on guard for Canada at home and abroad; supporting law-abiding Canadians; helping communities and industries and promoting integrity and accountability.

“The voters of Dufferin-Caledon were very clear in the recent campaign. They told me consistently at the doorstep that they wanted the government to continue to focus on the economy, jobs and growth,” said Mr. Tilson. “I’m pleased to see that the Speech from the Throne is reflecting those wishes throughout and in good detail.”

Mr. Tilson noted that the Speech made the point that Canada continues to be one of the world’s top-performing advanced economies, but that the global economic environment remains uncertain. The Speech also made the point that we must act now to protect our recovery and set the foundations for long-term growth.
