OTTAWA – David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today chaired a series of productive meetings between Canadian Parliamentarians and members of the Delegation for Relations with Canada of the European Parliament."As President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association, I was pleased to host our colleagues from the European Parliament,” said Mr. Tilson. “Our meetings today were a productive exchange of ideas on current issues affecting our bilateral relationship.”
As part of the 33rd Annual European Parliament-Canada Inter-parliamentary Meeting, Members of the European Parliament representing the United Kingdom, Romania, Finland, Denmark, Italy, Bulgaria and Austria were in Ottawa for meetings with MPs and Senators on a range of issues. On the agenda were discussions on the oil sands, terrorism, international trade and immigration.
“My colleagues from the government side as well as critics from each of our opposition parties benefitted greatly by our interaction with our European counterparts,” said Mr. Tilson. “With important matters such as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with the EU under negotiation, it is very important to share our views with our Parliamentary colleagues in Europe.”
Prior to arriving in Ottawa, the MEPs toured various oil sands facilities in Alberta. “We were very impressed with the working together of the provincial government, the national government and the companies there,” UK MEP Philip Bradbourn, Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Canada, told CBC Edmonton after his visit to Alberta.
