CALEDON, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, David Tilson, Member of Parliament (Dufferin–Caledon), today announced funding for Coverings magazine.
Coverings serves Canada’s floorcovering wholesalers, retailers, installers, interior designers, architetcts, contractors, and manufacturers.
“A healthy publishing industry is important to our society and our economy,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to have renewed its funding for Canadian magazines and non-daily newspapers through the Canada Periodical Fund.”
“I am pleased to see the Government of Canada supporting magazines such as Coverings, which contribute to the diversity and vitality of the Canadian periodical sector,” said Mr. Tilson.
“Canadian trade publications provide critical communication to Canada’s manufacturing and sales sectors. Postal and printing costs, as well as the U.S.-led economic downturn, have placed unique pressure on publications and their advertisers,” said Kerry Knudsen, publisher. “This funding will provide a much-needed boost over the hurdles the current international economic environment has imposed, and will help keep jobs in Caledon.”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $1,751 to Coverings magazine under the Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund (CPF). The Fund invests in periodicals like this one to help increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries. The Aid to Publishers component works to ensure that Canadians can continue to have access to the Canadian content they want from paid or request circulation magazines and community newspapers, and provides those titles with the support they need to respond to a complex marketplace. This component provides greater flexibility for publishers to invest where needed in creation, production, marketing, distribution, and Web and digital development.
The CPF, which was created following public consultations, replaces former programs: the Publications Assistance Program and the Canada Magazine Fund.
