Our Government is committed to promoting equality for girls and young women in Canada and to support their advancement in leadership and decision-making roles, as well as in economic security and prosperity. Our commitment to these goals was recently demonstrated when we shared the theme for Women’s History Month 2012: “Strong Girls, Strong Canada: Leaders from the Start,” and announced a Call for Proposals (under the “Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed”), for projects aiming to enhance girls’ and young women’s participation in civic, political, and community life, as well as in the economy.

The recent Call for Proposals under “Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed” will support the advancement of girls and young women in Canada in two thematic areas: engaging girls and young women in leadership roles and strengthening girls’ and young women’s economic prosperity.  Our Government recognizes that when girls and young women can participate fully, our communities benefit and all of Canada is stronger as a result. We want to support organizations in helping girls become leaders now and in the future and this Call for Proposals will assist organizations in providing opportunities.

Projects under “Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed” will build partnerships and collaboration between individuals, communities, and stakeholders to identify and respond to the specific barriers that girls and women face in participating in civic, political, and community life. In concert with stakeholders at all levels, girls and young women will help identify the issues affecting their participation and expand their understanding of these issues. Girls and young women will also develop leadership skills and help deliver innovative girl-led strategies to overcome these barriers and positively impact their communities.

Incorporated not-for-profit and for-profit Canadian organizations with the mandate, experience, expertise, and capacity to deliver their proposed project are eligible to apply. The target population for these projects is girls and/or young women under 25 years of age and up to $200,000 is available for projects spanning up to 24 months.
The Call for Proposals under “Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed” was issued on June 05, 2021 and the deadline for submitting applications is August 10, 2012. More detailed information on the Call for Proposals can be found on the Status of Women Canada website at www.swc-cfc.gc.ca

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting projects that yield concrete results for women and girls in Canada while strengthening families, communities, and the country. Through Status of Women Canada, the Government's support for community-based projects has nearly doubled since 2006-2007, increasing from $10.8 million to close to $19 million each year, its highest level ever.
The recent Call for Proposals under “Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed” will continue our Government’s efforts towards ensuring the economic security of young women and girls and to encourage them in taking on leadership roles.
