Canada Day in Dufferin-Caledon

The time of year is once again approaching to celebrate what it means to be Canadian and all that this country stands for. Across the country on July 1st, Canadians will join together to celebrate the freedoms and privileges that we enjoy in this great nation. I hope you will join me in marking Canada Day this year at one of the many events taking place throughout Dufferin-Caledon.

Downey’s Farm in Caledon will be hosting their annual Canada Day Strawberry Festival. Starting at 9:00 a.m., families can enjoy a scrumptious pancake breakfast topped with fresh picked Downey’s strawberries and whipped cream, for $7 per person. Opening ceremonies commence at 10:30 a.m., followed by a day of live entertainment, kids’ activities, and a dog show. For more information, please visit .

The Caledon Agricultural Society will be hosting its annual Canada Day Strawberry Festival at the Caledon Fairgrounds from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This day of family fun will include live entertainment throughout the day, a classic car show from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a Bavarian garden, silent auction, a bouncy castle, clowns, vendors, “Christmas in July” displays, and much more. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 233 of Orangeville will be hosting a Canada Day open house barbeque featuring live local bands. The branch will be open to the public starting at 12:00 p.m. with ceremonies beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The town of Shelburne’s annual Canada Day festivities will be taking place at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex with opening ceremonies beginning at 3:00 p.m. The afternoon will include a free family swim, the popular “Shelburne’s Got Talent” competition, live music, pony rides, Shelburne Police bike rally, and much more; all leading up to a Canada Day fireworks display at dusk.
Knox United Church of Caledon Village will be hosting their annual Canada Day strawberry supper that will be taking place at the church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids with pre-school aged children being admitted free of charge. Both eat-in and take-out service are available.

The Albion Hills Conservation Area in Caledon will offer free admission and a host of activities after 4:00 p.m. to celebrate Canada Day. Festivities will include citizenship ceremonies, live bands, nature walks, hayrides, and a reptile show. The evening will end with a fireworks display at dusk.

The Rotary Club of Orangeville Highlands is, once again, hosting the annual Canada Day talent show at the Orangeville Fairgrounds with doors opening at 7:00 p.m., followed by a dazzling fireworks show beginning at dusk.

This Canada Day weekend also coincides with the 150th Anniversary celebrations of the Town of Grand Valley. Canada Day marks the start of an entire weekend of celebrations in recognition of the anniversary, beginning with a car show at 12 p.m. on Main Street and official opening ceremonies beginning at 7:30 p.m. For a full schedule of events taking place over the weekend, visit
