Christmas wishes

Christmas has always been an extra special time of year for me. As a child growing up in a small family, I always enjoyed the traditions and special treats that only came out during this magical time of year. Now as 'child at heart' who stills loves the holiday season, one of the many pleasures I have representing the riding of Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey is the fact that I get to participate in a number of different and unique Santa Clause parades held throughout the riding.

In the past month, I have participated in seven parades. The only parade I was unable to participate in this year, because of a scheduling conflict, was in Arthur. Some parades are large, detailed affairs, while others are intimate local events. All seemed to be enjoyed equally by everyone who brought their children out to watch.

The Holstein Santa Clause parade is always a unique experience that I particularly enjoy participating in. In Holstein, the parade is non-motorized, so every imaginable sort of transportation is used to transport the floats to entertain the crowd.

As a father of a three year old just discovering the excitement of this holiday season, I would recommend the fastest way to get in the Christmas spirit is to join or watch a Santa Clause parade. There is still time to take your family for a walk through your neighborhood to enjoy the beautiful displays of outdoor Christmas lights, or if your near Orangeville, drop onto Kaycee Gardens and walk through Christmas in the Park put on by the local Optimist Club. To all of the organizers in Orangeville, Bolton, Shelburne, Erin, Mount Forest, Grand Valley, Arthur and Holstein, thank you for taking the time to put together these wonderful symbols of the season.

As the Member of Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey, I would like to wish you all the best for the holiday season. May your homes be filled with family and friends as you celebrate this wonderful time of year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
