David Tilson, M.P. announces new horizons funding for the Orangeville & District Senior Citizens Centre

Orangeville, ON — David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, announced today that the Government of Canada will be providing $6,274 to the Orangeville and District Senior Citizens Centre for its “Let’s Play Healthy Hearts and Minds” project, under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

The funding support, which has been delivered through the Community Participation and Leadership Funding component of the NHSP, will assist local seniors in providing floor curling and interactive board gaming activities, to allow those with financial, physical, or social limitations, the opportunity to increase their level of participation and socialization.

“This project builds on the already outstanding work that the Orangeville and District Senior Citizens Centre does to reach out to as many of our community’s seniors as possible, to reduce the problem of social isolation,” said Mr. Tilson. “Through the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Government of Canada is supporting local projects like this one, to ensure that seniors remain actively engaged in their communities.”

The Community Participation and Leadership component of the NHSP encourages seniors to continue to play an important role in their communities by helping those in need, providing leadership, and sharing their knowledge and skills with others.

The NHSP also includes two additional components — Capital Assistance and Elder Abuse Awareness— with an overall budget of now $35 million per year.
