David Tilson, M.P. Announces Government of Canada Support for Innovative Research and Development in Bolton
July 22, 2010
Bolton, Ontario — David Tilson, Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon, today announced a total contribution of $226,109 to five Bolton firms from the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program. The funding support was provided to the following firms: Corin Broom Manufacturing Inc., 3R Foam Manufacturing, Nuvo Iron™, Silcotech North America Inc., and EnerMotion Inc., for projects in research and technology development for commercial purposes. “Our Government is investing in science and technology to create good jobs, strengthen the economy and improve Canadians’ quality of life,” said Mr. Tilson. “This Government is supporting Canadian firms that successfully develop innovative technologies. Canada’s Economic Action Plan is supporting scientific research and commercialization, while creating good jobs and economic growth.” The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan provided new resources of $200 million to the Industrial Research Assistance Program over two years to support innovative Canadian firms. When asked for comment on the funding, Jack MacDonnell, EnerMotion's CEO stated, “Having support from a key federal program has been critical to our early success as a start up company. We’re developing technology that will benefit the entire globe through emission and fossil fuel reductions and IRAP has been an integral component of our commercialization efforts.” “We are very fortunate to have programs like the NRC’S IRAP to help small-to-medium sized companies like us. I believe more programs like this should be offered to local manufactures so they can not only innovate, but have the financial assistance to purchase capital equipment, which will allow companies to manufacturer more and more products in-house rather than importing from other countries,” said Paola Costa of Corin Broom Manufacturing. “We at Nuvo Iron are very grateful that this funding has assisted us to further the research and development and patenting of innovative fencing products. This has allowed us to expand and open up new opportunities in the North American marketplace,” stated Carlos Pacheco of Nuvo Iron™. “Creativity, growth, and innovation are the key elements for Canadian companies to stay competitive in the global market,” said Isolde Boettger from Silcotech North America Inc. About NRC and NRC-IRAP The Industrial Research Assistance Program provides a range of both technical and business-oriented advisory services along with necessary financial support to qualified innovative Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises. The program is delivered by a field staff of 240 professionals in more than 100 communities across Canada. Through this program, the National Research Council is committed to working with small- and medium-sized enterprises while they realize their full potential, turning knowledge and innovation into strategic opportunities, jobs and prosperity for all Canadians. |
