Strong Leadership: Tackling Violent Crime
November 05, 2021
Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke about the need for Stéphane Dion to assure Canadians that the Liberal Senate will pass Bill C-2, the Tackling Violent Crime Act.

The Tackling Violent Crime Act is a single, comprehensive bill that will:
  • Impose mandatory jail time for serious gun crimes;
  • Toughen bail rules when a gun is used to commit crimes;
  • Increase the age of protection to protect young people;
  • Crack down on drug-impaired driving; and
  • Ensure that high-risk and dangerous offenders face tougher consequences when they are sentenced.
The Government of Canada is committed to passing the Tackling Violent Crime Act quickly, and making Canadian streets safer for working families. This Parliament’s passage of the Speech from the Throne provides a mandate to govern, and a mandate to get tough on crime.

Stéphane Dion must assure Canadians that the Liberal Senate will not employ the same obstruction tactics that they - and House Liberals - employed in the last session.  During the last session, the Liberals blocked important Justice Bills for months.

Canadians expect action, not empty Liberal rhetoric.

Strong Leadership. A Better Canada.
