Government of Canada delivers for Canadian farmers
December 05, 2021
The Government of Canada is delivering real action for Canadian farm families across the country. The Liberals spent 13 years talking about agriculture, but did nothing. Today the Liberals issued a release talking about agriculture, but once again offered no action. "This Government is putting farmers first in every agriculture policy we deliver," said Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board. "Canadian farmers have given this Government overwhelming support and we deliver real action on their behalf." The Government of Canada has delivered an impressive list of accomplishments for Canadian farm families in less than two years. This past November, Minister Ritz negotiated agreements with the provincial and territorial to create Agri-Invest, Agri-Stability, and Agri-Recovery to replace the failed Liberal Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) program. This Government has taken a strong and balanced approach to international negotiations by standing up for supply management and pushing for increased market access for Canadian exports. This Government is also delivering real action for both our environment and our farm families by providing strong support for the biofuel industry. "Canadian farmers are maximizing tremendous opportunities in agriculture, but this Government also recognizes some sectors are struggling," said Minister Ritz. "We?re working with industry leaders and provincial governments to deliver real help to livestock producers weather current struggles and build long-term solutions." Liberal leader St?phane Dion admitted his lack interest in agriculture this summer. "I?m not an expert on agriculture," Mr. Dion told the Chatham Daily News, on August 21, 2007. After 13 years of Liberal inaction for agriculture, it took Mr. Dion another six months to assemble a "task force" made up of an agriculture critic who never served as agriculture minister and a rookie Liberal candidate. "Maybe we?ll hear Opposition leader talk about agriculture again in six months," said Minister Ritz. "While Opposition talks, this Government will continue to deliver real action for Canadian farm families across the country." |
