Strong Leadership.  A Prosperous Economy.
December 04, 2021
The economy is about more than statistics. Whether you are talking about employment numbers, interest rates or total tax burden, the kind of economic climate we have in Canada matters to our quality of life.

A prosperous, growing economy means more people can find a job and be secure in that job.

By balancing the budget and paying down the debt, the Conservative government is ensuring that interest rates stay low – which is welcome news to any family working hard to pay a car loan or mortgage.

And when it comes to taxes, the Conservative Government has put more money back into the hands of hard-working families and taxpayers who know how to use that money best. This includes lowering taxes for families and small businesses as well as cutting the GST to 5%.

It is therefore no surprise that Canada’s economy has grown by 6% in the past two years, that unemployment is at its lowest level in three decades and that the total tax burden faced by Canadians is at its lowest level in nearly half a century.

This did not emerge by accident. It is a combination of hard work and strong leadership from the Conservative Government.

By his own admission, Stéphane Dion wants to take us in a radically different direction. We already know that a Dion Liberal government will increase spending by billions of dollars with no priorities and no plan. Stéphane Dion wants to increase the GST to pay for his pet projects and special interests. Stéphane Dion’s ill-thought out Kyoto plan could cost Canada hundreds of thousands of jobs with no real environmental results to show for it.

For Canadians trying to make ends meet, the lesson is clear. Stéphane Dion is not worth the risk.

Any weak leader can take more and spend more and forget about the consequences. That is the Stéphane Dion way. Prime Minister Harper is a strong leader who understands that a strong economy requires real priorities and a real respect for how hard Canadians work.
