Statement By The Prime Minister Of Canada
April 21, 2010
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement to mark National Volunteer Week, April 18 to 24: “Over 12 million Canadians volunteer their time and energy to make their communities, this country and the world a better place. “We all know some of these selfless people, having experienced first-hand their contributions to a broad range of charities and other organizations. Often their work is essential to keeping an organization or service up and running. “During National Volunteer Week, I encourage all Canadians to thank the volunteers in their communities. I also encourage Canadians to get involved and support worthwhile causes in their areas. “Our Government is doing its share to encourage and recognize Canadians who volunteer. In this year’s Speech from the Throne, we committed to establishing a prime ministerial award for volunteerism in recognition of the enormous contribution volunteers make to Canada. “It is a tremendous source of pride that Canada has so many volunteers who continue to make exceptional contributions. On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the millions of Canadian volunteers for their tireless efforts to help make Canada the best country in the world.” |
